Download Web Videos in HD

Most modern computer screens are HD compatible, yet most downloaded YouTube videos are far from HD ready. Portable devices like the iPad and iPhone 4 even have HD screens, but file compatibility keeps us from realizing their full potential, since most Web videos download in mediocre quality FLV format.
A site called Keep-Tube.com downloads YouTube and other Web videos as MP4s, in full 1080p HD quality.
Keep-Tube.com is not magic—if a video was not recorded in HD, it cannot convert it to HD. Instead, it can take HD videos and make them downloadable in MP4 format, which supports 1080p. To find HD videos on YouTube, add 1080p to your search string. ![]()
Copy the URL of the video you want to download. Paste the URL in Keep-Tube.com’s text input box and click download.
The video and several download options appear towards the bottom of the screen. Choose the HD MP4 option on the far right. You will be prompted to choose a place to save the video to your computer, and the video will immediately start downloading.
The option second to the right is also HD quality, but the lesser 720p. There are also many videos on YouTube and the like in 720p (you can add 720p to your search string instead of 1080p), and many economy level TVs are 720p, so the format may be ideal for some users. On smaller screens, the video quality loss is almost undetectable.
Keep-Tube.com is quick and easy to use, but is misleading at first glance. The site does not explain that a video must already be in HD format to download in HD format. The sites supported by Keep-Tube.com are impressive. Beside YouTube, the Veoh, Photobucket and even Spike are supported, among others.
